I am Steven Christian and I will be your host for today’s presentation where we welcome Attorney Elizabeth Semler who is a Partner and Chair of the Employment Law Group at Sussman Shank LLP. At her firm Elizabeth advises a diverse group of clients in a broad range of business and employment matters. Her employment practice includes counseling employers on a wide range of complex employment issues including: Federal and Oregon leave laws; workplace harassment and discrimination; Oregon and Washington sick leave laws; compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and equivalent Oregon statute; employee discipline and documentation; wage and hour issues; and issues related to employee classification. Additionally, Elizabeth prepares employment and severance agreements, employee handbooks, employment policies, and conducts on-site training for employers on harassment, discrimination and medical leave. Today Attorney Semler will present on The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division’s Temporary Rule Addressing COVID-19 Workplace Risks (OAR 437-001-0744) which took effect on November 16, 2020. The rule creates a number of new obligations for employers and includes provisions generally applicable to all workplaces and specific rules for exceptional-risk workplaces as well as guidance for specific industries and types of businesses. This presentation will discuss the requirements generally applicable to workplaces and the deadlines for compliance.
